I managed to drop a course (bringing me into the safe realms of the four-A-Level-student) and my time organisation isn't too shocking...well... maybe I could be working in this free period, as opposed to blogging, but hey - at least I don't need my flag yet (see post below).

My favourite thing about college however is writing for the college magazine. It's fantastic - I have the free reign to write articles and reviews about whatever I want (I'm even interviewing one of my favourite unsigned bands!), and what's more, I have a column.

Yes, you heard me right - my very own column! Cat's column! It's great -it's like a monthly blog that people will actually read!!! (No offence blogfans - I'm thrilled that you're reading this right now, but let's face it - as a group, you're rather few in number!) Only problem is, now I have an audience for my candyfloss drivel, I can't think of anything to write about! I cannot explain how annoyed this makes me. I'm also kinda anxious abuot what people might make of me - it's all fine and dandy to be a loon in cyberspace, but if I unleash my crazy upon the students of New College, there's no telling what might happen! I suppose there's a flip side to people actually reading what you write.

Either way, I suppose it's a step up in my pink-and-shiny-aspiring-journalist world, and one to be treated with optimism, not dread. I'm only interviewing a band and writing a column; what's the worst that could happen...?

Dot. Dot. Dot.

Watch this space folks!

Cat ;-) xx

Good afternoooooooooon bloggers!

Well, it's been a while since I was trapped in that I.T suite back in the dreary depths of Crofton High... a place which after spending induction and enrolment day at the scary halls of terror that are the buildings that make up Pontefract New College, I wish I was going back to!

I know, I know - College is great... more freedom blah blah, more interesting courses blah blah, best days of your life blah blah blah... I just can't come around to the idea of trying to juggle 5 courses that I'm not even convinced are the right choices (before you tut at the notion of 5 A-Levels, YOU try picking just four that are a balance of what you like, what you're good at, and what universities want!), with writing for the college newsletter (It's not unecessary - if I decide that journalism is what I want to do, I'll need to come up with some proof of writing experience) and driving lessons (which in themselves could prove fatal - I have a reputation for extreme clumsiness, and my spacial awareness leaves a lot to be desired!)

What makes it worse is I just KNOW I'm not going to have enough - if any - time for my beloved friends, and consequently I shall fall by the wayside with my armfuls of folders and notebooks, waving my little "I used to be cool" flag from the sorry gutter of friendlessness.

Stupid college. (Who even came up with the expression Red Letter Day? And why the hell did I just use it?!)

I have been on my first trip to the cinema to watch a scary film (did NOT end well - I spent the entire thing hiding under my coat and asking if the corpes had gone yet. I've decied to compile a list of ten little things that make me smile.

1 - Finding my key in the first place I look.
It's cold/dark/raining, and Im stood on my doorstep, locked out of my house. On bad days, I have to check my coat pockets, my purse, my bag, my pencil case, my makeup bag and ultimately have to empty the entire contents of my schoolbag out onto my doorstep, only to find it in my pocket after all, or just not there at all.
On a good day it's in my pocket the first time I look.

2 - When people look happy to see me.
You know what I mean - isn't it always nicer when someone puts an enthusiastic exclamation mark at the end of your name rather than a full stop of disinterest?

3 - Elderly couples.
Yes, it's slushy, and yes, there is a chance that they've only known eachother for a week, but the likelyhood is that they've been married for years and are still as in love with eachother as they were when they first met. Either that or they've had problems to face, but they've worked through them together.
Seeing that has got to make you smile!
I try to ignore the fact that one of them is probably going to die very soon, leaving the other one broken-hearted and alone...

4 - The right song at the right time.
The comforting empathetic one when your sad, that cheery one when you're...well...cheery, that fab song you haven't heard in aaaaages - you can't beat hearing just the song you need when you really need it.

5 - Chocolate.
It stands alone as one of those great things that makes every day more enjoyable!

6 - Buskers.
I'm not too sure why, but seeing a random musician creating music on the high street always makes me smile. Adds ambience and charachter to a shopping trip!

7 - Friendly strangers.
I like it when people take the time to smile at you as they walk by rather than acting as if you don't exist.
Makes the world a smaller place.
Oh, and it always brightens me up when people like shop assistants, waiters/waitresses and bus drivers are cheery too - I understand that some of them might be having a bad day, but I don't like having to engage with people who are grumpy just because they can afford to be.

8 - Random, unexcpected compliments.
The ones that take you by surprise are always the ones that make you smile the most!

9 - Playing a flute piece flawlessly.
After having to practice incredibly awkward two bar phrases over and over solidly for nearly an hour (you know which ones I mean Mozart!), the feeling of acheivement I receive from being able the whole piece through without any mistakes is immense! Combined with the eneral buzz of creating music, it's a very efficient smile provoker!

10 - Making other people smile.
It might sound very cheesy to say that making other people smile makes you smile yourself, but in practise it's true! Everyone knows how fab it feels to make someone smile or cheer someone up, especially the people you care about. God that's made it sound cheesier... what I meant was...erm... I like it when I make people smile because it must mean that they think I look cool. There. Saved.

There it is! Ten small everyday things that make me smile, regardless of the cold and dark. In your face Winter!

Cat ;-) xx

Work, Pledges and Pink Rubber Gloves.

Hey Everybody!

Here's my new post. It's a couple of weeks late, but it's here!

It's been a pretty boring few weeks in Catworld, on the whole. Today's been a pretty good example of the boredom... I got up... made breakfast.... did the washing up...

THAT'S how bored I was... well... bored and desparate to avoid work. I hate doing the washing up with a passion. The only things that get me through the traumatic experience are my kitchen radio and my pink washing up gloves. (Pink rubber gloves - practical and pretty!)

And now I'm here. When I should be doing work.

That's what I can write this post about!

I, Cat Millar, hereby pledge to do my work and stop procrastrinating from this moment forth. Well... from when I finish this post.

I know I say that quite often, but this time it's gonna last! Honest!

Right! On that note, I bid you all farewell. I'm leaving to do my tech work! And my Science coursework! And my English notes! And... my History coursework... and whilst I'm at it I should probably write that evaluation for music...oh, and that composition needs re-working... oh God, I have to do that Drama research too! And that script annotation for my portfolio! That was due in ages ago!! ok, don't stress at how far you are behind you are, just take steps to remedy it, one step at a time. Tech first. Wait...*looks in planner*... I have a tech practical tomorrow! And no ingredients to make it! The supermarket shuts early on Sundays! I'm so screwed!
*continues to look* Noooo! China coursework! I'd forgotten all about that!! I didn't wnt to be reminded of it - I was quite blissful in my ignorance!! Stupid History teacher and his stupid "Write it in your planner again Cat"...

Oh. My. God. Seeing all that written down is horrible!

Right. I am going to rush to the supermarket with my scraped back hair and un-made-up face (if you know me, you'll know how much of a sacrifice I'm making there!), then do as much work as the remaining hours of the day will allow for!!

Bye!

Cat ;-) xx

Welcome to Catworld!

Well hello there everybody and welcome to my new blog!

I created a second blog, as although I love posting articles on "You only live once", I don't get inspiration that often, meaning that I can't post regularly. On this blog however, things are gonna be different!

This is more of a day-to-day-musing blog. It's more of a journal than anything else; a useful space to put all of those amusing incidents that I always manage to encounter (If you know me, you'll know what I mean!), and to write random things when I'm bored.

Well, now thats sorted, I'd better go and write my first (real!) post.

Cat ;-) xx
